Movie Review: Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt (2011, Full Moon)

Directed by Charles Band

Starring Erica Rhodes, Olivia Alexander and Chelsea Edmundson

Back in 1999, Full Moon Entertainment and director David DeCoteau produced a strange little horror flick about an extra-dimensional entity that enters our world by infesting the eye of a voyeuristic scientist. Naturally the infested eye grows to enormous size, detaches itself from the body of its victim and goes on a rampage. The film was called The Killer Eye. Now the Eyeball's back in Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt.

When Jenna asks her four hot girlfriends to help convert an old mansion into a Halloween Haunt, they decide to turn the job into a party. Things get steamy between the girls and they accidentally unleash the half-pint, horrible Killer Eye, a perverse party crasher from beyond, which starts out as a simple prop in a box. When they open the box and remove the eye they find it has come with a DVD which happens to be the original Killer Eye movie. Watching the movie awakens the horny little beastie. Bent on having his way, the Killer Eye will stop at nothing until he gets exactly what he wants. And apparently that is to zap the girls in the face with a green electric charge, making them super hot and bothered, or.....simply blow their heads apart, or.......slide inside their cooter, impregnate them and expel itself out their mouth. Nom-nom-nom! The Killer Eye is eventually vanquished by a simple blow with a sledgehammer and the world is saved.

Now, The Eye itself wasn't all that menacing or impressive, why no one just stepped on the damn thing to begin with is beyond me. The haunted house props scattered throughout the place were much more creepy then the actual monster eye and any of them would of made a far better villain, but then they would have had to change the name of the movie I guess. The Killer Eye did have some redeeming qualities though, and those would be the 5 smoking hot chicks who played the bubble-headed co-ed's. The topless scenes, shower scene and lesbian make-out session took the sting out of an otherwise uninspired flick, and I suppose if you watch it without any real expectations then you wont be too terribly disappointed. If director Band's intention was to make a goofy little horror movie with a ridiculously hokey monster, sub-par dialog and plenty of eye candy to fill out the rough spots then he pretty much hit the mark.

Now, with that being said, this DVD was saved by a home run that came out of nowhere in the form of one of the included extras. Along with the standard Full Moon trailers there was a cool little grindhouse promo and an extra called Far Out YouTube Videos. These included a fascinating short film called A Cult Influence which chronicles the history of cult films and our adoration of all things cheesy and beautiful captured on film. Also, a strange little film called My Super Ex Grudge, which is about a guy who goes out on a date with Kioko (the ghostly girl from The Grudge), bangs her, dumps her then is stalked by her. The end credits to this one are rolled to a great death metal song called Pick The Scab by a band called The Malice. Totally Boss!

The feature gets a 4 out of 10
The Extras get a 7.5 out of 10
