Movie Review: Division III: Football's Finest (2011)

Independent comedy can be tough to sit through. Occasionally you get a movie like Goon that surprises. I'm especially nervous about it when it stars a name comedian and still gets no traction. In this case, that might have more to do with the star's reputation than the content of the movie. I am an Andy Dick fan, and Division III can be added to the list of his best work.

We learn that Division III is at the bottom of the college football barrel. It's more BS than BCS.The Pullham University Bluecocks are not known for having a winning record at their level, so after the football coach suddenly dies, the school goes out on a limb and hires controversial coach Rick Vice (Andy Dick) to lead the team. He's controversial for one reason. He almost killed an entire kids' football team. Vice comes in with an anger and energy that pretty much terrifies the team. He especially seems to get to the backup quarterback, Mitch DePrima (played by director Marshall Cook). Trouble follows vice throughout the season and leads him from one horrifying situation into another.

The Film Vault Podcast returns September 16th

If you are a podcast fan, and you like Cinema Head Cheese: The Podcast!, then I think you might like The Film Vault. Bryan Bishop, best known as Bald Bryan on The Adam Carolla Show, and Anderson Cowan, resident sound man on Loveline, get together weekly to give their top five lists in random film categories.

The show had a great run over on Adam Carolla's ACE Broadcasting Network, and now they're venturing out on their own. I've been a fan for quite awhile now, and I recommend it. I hope to see a return by Miss Movies, who did a regular segment called Red Light / Green Light, in which the boys discuss real upcoming film projects.

Movie Review: The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie! (2010)

Drawn Together was easily one of the most creative cartoon ideas on the air. It was parody at its finest. I was sad to see it go after only three seasons, and I had to revisit the series to remind myself just how disturbed it really was. If you don't remember, it was a parody of shows like Big Brother and The Real World in which iconic cartoon character types would live together and be constantly filmed. It was crass and vulgar and entertaining as hell. I was overjoyed when I saw that a movie was made.

After finishing off the last few episodes of the series, I started the movie. One thing I immediately noticed was a difference in the animation. It wasn't extremely different, but different enough to be a bit of a distraction for me. I'm sure people that had a gap of a few years between seeing the movie and the show wouldn't think much of it, but I did. It was especially noticeable with Princess Clara and Xandir. Thankfully the voice cast returned, and they were as good as always.

The Podcast Burrito: Volume 1

I grew up listening to talk radio, and now that you can get it whenever you want, I am a happy boy.

The Adam Carolla Podcast

After taking over for Howard Stern on the Western half of the country, Carolla's show was an ever-changing entity. Once he moved into the podcast world, he started with one-on-one interviews and eventually got the crew from his morning show back together. Complete with news, Bald Bryan's sound effects and even Dawson's weed laced announcing, Carolla is back in business on his terms with his daily podcast.
