TV on DVD Review: Breaking Bad: The Complete Third Season (2010)

Ah, the majesty of chaos. After each season, I wonder how much better this can get. I seem to always get answers. With the fourth season underway, I thought this would be a great time to dive into the third season of one of the best anti-hero adventures on television.

Buy Breaking Bad: The Complete Third Season [Blu-ray] or DVD

So, we have Walter, a guy who constantly gets deeper into this business without knowing what he's really doing. Outside of the chemistry, he's fairly lost, yet seems to think he's smart enough to outsmart a major drug dealer. When he is offered a big money contract to work for Gus, a local businessman who does quite well with distribution, Walt accepts. It looks like a nice gig, but there is always a problem.

Though his new assistant Gale is a perfect fit, Walt still feels the need to take care of Jesse, so out Gale goes, for a bit, anyway. Skyler also gets in much deeper than you expect, and Hank takes time to recover after what happened at the end of Season Two. The character I love most in this season is Mike. The ex-cop turned hitman develops into a great character.

As we see Jesse connect the dots in past events and Walter tries to hold everything in his life together, you know things definitely go wrong here and there. You just can't see it going any other way. The ending to the third season finale, and I mean just the last few minutes, is enough to make you crazy for the next episode. As always, top notch television that keeps getting better.

Six Degrees of Cheese: Dads You Didn't Know Were Great

When we think about great dads in television and movies, we usually go for the obvious. Cliff Huxtible and Ozzie Nelson rank high on the small screen, and you might think about Mufasa or Mr. Mom at the movies. I started to think about the dads that don't get much credit. If I really wanted to pick a top movie dad, that would be easy. It would be David Bagby from Dear Zachary. That guy is hands down the best father and grandfather I've ever seen in a movie. That being said, I decided to leave the documentaries out and stick to fiction. Otherwise, it just wouldn't be fair.

TV #6: CAMERON AND MITCHELL - MODERN FAMILY

These dads represent a variation of the American family that hasn't been shown on TV before. They can overdo it at times, but many first-time parents do. The thing about these two is that not only do they care about their daughter, but they adopted a kid who didn't have a home. That's always impressive.

MOVIE #6: DANIEL HILLARD - MRS. DOUBTFIRE

Talk about going to extremes to be with your kids. After facing horrible treatment by the family court system (big shocker), Daniel Hillard doesn't know what to do. With the help of his brother, he creates an alter ego and is hired as his ex-wife's maid. Funny that she has a maid while he lives in a tiny barely furnished apartment. Good thing for those much needed alimony and child support payments. Yeeeeeah.

TV on DVD Review: Breaking Bad: The Complete Second Season (2009)

I don't know if I could love a show more. The first season was great, but it keeps getting better. The second season of the show about a high school teacher turned meth dealer adds so much to its story. Walter White is really getting out of control. I know you thought he was already screwed up, but he makes things worse at every turn.

Walt and Jesse take major steps in this season. They get involved with big bad distributors, and that isn't ever good.Meanwhile, Walt's brother-in-law, DEA Agent Hank is dealing with his own issues, and he's getting seemingly closer to Walt's operation. Now we add Bob Odenkirk to the mix as the kind of lawyer you see in TV commercials. He starts out looking silly, but he takes one hell of a dark turn.
