Review By: Rob Sibley
Argento... Argento... how the mighty have fallen. I'm kidding, I know Drac 3D has become a running joke ever since the "praying mantis" scene from the first teaser trailer leaked, people joke about this film. Is it a cheese fest? Yes, you bet your ass it but it's also a lot fun. Sure this is pure "cinema head cheese" pardon the plug but you're already reading this, so good for you.
Now we'll get to what the film does right and what it does wrong, this will be a shorter review because it's an easy film to spoil, it really is. Before you watch this film, think of the worst Hammer Horror vampire film, then add buckets of "Mother of tears" style gore and plenty of T&A. Yes Asia Argento is naked a lot in this film. Within the first 10 minutes you see torture, nudity, sex, and major carnage.

Movie Review: Berberian Sound Studio (2012, IFC)
Some of the finest horror films - or films for that matter - have a handful of pertinent things molded together perfectly to make them a solid moviegoing experience. For me, one of those main components that can literally make a movie terrifying is a well done soundtrack. John Carpenter comes to mind mind as someone who has used this skill in that department to his advantage. Of course the earlier films of the great Dario Argento (Suspiria, Deep Red) and his frequent collaboration with the talented group, Goblin, also show how great it is when it's done well. Peter Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio makes some interesting homages to some of the better Italian horror films of the 70's and 80's fo and has an interesting story on post-production sound and how it effects the characters in the film. Is it enough though?
Toby Jones (Captain America: First Avenger, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) plays Gilderoy, a quiet, lumpy English sound engineer starting again on a production for a horror film in Italy about witches. Nervous and seemingly out of place around the voice actors and other crew, Gilderoy has unenviable task of working with an ego-maniac director, Giancarlo Santini (Antonio Mancino). Gilderoy gradually starts to lose his sanity from the tension experienced in trying to complete this project -- one that he’s not too thrilled with to begin with. Berberian Sound Studio, has horror elements, but it really is more about the behind the scenes of a horror film. Some of what is shown is enjoyable to see, like the techniques on how music and dialogue is recorded to sync up with the film and even some interesting foley work that includes splattering watermelons and stabbing honey dew melons for death scenes.

Movie Review: Would You Rather...? (2012, IFC Midnight)
...well, well, well...what do we have here, ladies and gentlemen?? How so very interesting that the last time we amassed together here, to waxrapsonic about a movie involving a wound-up, ticking time clock, actor Mark Hamill, adorned in a most eccentric sort of character, was sadistically torturing a fellow crime cohort for information, with the sharpened lead stinger of a number two pencil (...see previous review of "Sushi Girl"). Yet, here we all are gathered, once again...with yet another rusty old time clock, relentlessly ticking away...and yet another game of uncompromising brutality and sadism. And a question for you fine folks, out there...oh, yes...a most intriguing question to be posed in this gathered arena. Just how far would you be willing to go...what would you be willing to do...how much would you be willing to sacrifice...how far would you be willing to compromise your most unswervingly and steadfast convictions...for money?? This is the rather intriguing...wholly guard-lowering...and potentially fatal query afforded to several willing, albeit curious 'contestants', in the midst of what gradually progress into a painfully unrelenting exercise in human truths, values and vulnerability...a truly sadistic and torturous game to be played here, called "Would You Rather...??"...

Movie Review: Undocumented (2011)
IFC Midnight has shown some wonderful consistency in releasing quality, provocative and even topical horror films over the past few years. For instance, we've sang praises for their release of Simon Rumley's Red, White and Blue numerous times on the site. A little bit of originality goes a long way, even for us genre junkies. Chris Peckover's Undocumented is on that same level, and boy does it pack punch that makes it easily the most fearless little film I've had the pleasure of seeing in a while.

Movie Review: Spiderhole (2010)
Starring Amy Noble, Emma Griffiths Malin and George Maguire
Four young art students embark on a mission to find an empty house in London, with the idea of living as squatters, free from the hassles of paying rent and the freedom of partying at their leisure. They soon come across a seemingly abandoned building, cut the lock and despite the fact that the interior is a complete shit hole they decide this is the place to make home. After a night of partying they awaken to find that every entrance into and out of the building has been sealed shut, doors welded and windows barred, with no way out and no way to signal for help. Panic soon overtakes them as they discover they are being toyed with by some type of evil presence. One by one they are gassed and dragged off to some type of operating room by a deranged doctor who likes to pluck out eyeballs and generally make life miserable for his victims. As the movie nears its end we get the obligatory plot twist when our protagonist Molly (played by Amy Noble) finds an old plastic purse containing a key and a girls I.D. She assumes this belonged to a previous victim and uses the key to escape only to find it leads her straight into the killers home. As she is being chased by the decrepit old killer she eventually winds up in a dead-end room where she comes face to face with the owner of the purse and we are let to believe she is eaten by the girl.

Movie Review: Kidnapped (2011, MPI/IFC Midnight)
Reviewed by Greg Goodsell
The pre-credits sequence is horrifying and relentless. An upper middle-class Spanish man is seen with a bag over his head, his hands tied behind his back as he struggles for air. In one continuous take, he manages to get to his feet, and begins walking around what is presumed to be an outdoor rest area by the side of a highway. Breathing loudly, he manages to stumble to the road where he is narrowly missed by a speeding vehicle – and is then promptly struck down by another. Our hero's predicament (Fernando Cayo) only gets worse from there – in a sequence that has absolutely no bearing on the film that is about to follow!

Movie Review: Tetsuo: The Bullet Man (2009, MPI/IFC Midnight)
Shinya Tsukamoto's 1989 hit Tetsuo: The Ironman was really an original piece of cinema 21 years ago. It echoed much of David Cronenberg and David Lynch's work and really brought "cyberpunk" full circle. His sequel, Tetsuo: Body Hammer, changed things up a bit but still displayed the eye-candy that made his debut so successful. Tetsuo: The Bullet Man is the third film in the trilogy and possibly the most manic ride of the three, but is it the best?Buy Tetsuo: The Bullet Man
