Movie Review: The GingerDead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver (2011)

While I don't always go for cheesy horror, I do like intentionally cheesy horror. I especially like when it goes to extremes. The original GingerDead Man was a riot. The title character, voiced by Gary Busey, was created from dough that was made with cursed flour. He was absolutely ridiculous, full of crazy one-liners and killed without remorse. Just what you want in a deadly pastry. In this edition, sans Busey, we see the killer cookie in a brand new setting.

There are plenty of parodies in GDM 3, and they are very well done. We see The Silence of the Lambs, Carrie and Porky's, and if you're paying attention, you'll notice some Peter and the Wolf music in the background. The running commentary by Ginger himself is also goofy and very loud, yet somehow nobody hears him.

The story starts with him being freed by misguided activists. He then travels back in time to my birth year, 1976, and he lands in a roller disco. What better place to slash your way into history than a disco? This really is fun and funny, and there are some crazy kills. I do wish that they had used more real effects than CGI, but that's incidental in a movie like this. It never takes itself seriously, and that's the best part.
