  1. ...nice review, Peggy; I agree that the film was great, but not blow-me-away 'great'. As far back as Lugosi's 'Dracula', Hollywood has always romanticized the character, and despite the inlaid sadism of the character...especially when connecting the Stoker incarnation with the real-life historical one...he has often been made as sympathetic. The romanticism is most assuredly herein...and on a definite grandiose, epic and operatic level; as far as the sense of sadism, that was definitely toned down. As you had mentioned, they did play around with Vlad Drakul's history a bit, as in my studies of the historical character, I don't recall a period of 'peace' within the character (...I did my high school senior paper on Vlad the Impaler...uh, back in the dawn of time, namely 1981...and since then, have been absolutely fascinated with the character, historically), so I did mark the occasional 'uh yeah, right', when watching the film. But overall...though the CGI was perhaps a tad bit too much, and I really didn't care too much for the ending...I got an absolute kick out of the film. Definitely one to add to my collection, when it gets released on home video. Perhaps a little bit of 'wow, I didn't know that' information for you: this film's distributor, Universal, wants to develop a sort of 'shared universe', like Marvel is doing with their superhero franchises, but with the studio's trademark classic monsters, and reportedly, "Dracula Untold" is supposed to be ushering that proposed concept, into play...
