Movie Review: Porno

Brazilian erotica has unfortunately been seldom viewed at the Cinema Head Cheese compound. Cult films from nearly every corner of the world have been represented in abundance on this website. However, Brazilian films have been lacking in our overall content... so something had to change. Aside from the occasional over-the-top Sady Baby grotesquerie and the frequent viewings Blame it on Rio - usually watching Michelle Johnson's scenes in slow-motion, over and over and over - which is just filmed in Rio and hardly representative of the beautiful women that inhabit this amazing South American country. It's not a secret - Brazilian women are some of the most gorgeous creatures in the world. What DVD company could possibly aid us in our search for the supreme examples of "Pornochanchada"? That's where genre label, Impulse films come in. So far, Impulse has put out three recent DVDs featuring "Pornochanchada": Chick's Ability, Alfredo Sternheim's jaw-dropping oddity, Violence and Flesh and today's review, Porno.

A trifecta of talented Brazilian filmmakers have joined forces to create, Porno, including - David Cardoso, Luiz Castellini and John Doo(who also directed Impulse's, Chick's Ability). As Gaselas, is the first segment in Porno. This Lesbian-themed little ditty, involves two very curious school girls who enjoy flipping through dirty magazines togethor and even scanning the ultimate sex book: Kama Sutra. After about 15 minutes of flirting and fondling these cuties wind up in the shower, soaping up each others “naughty parts”. Simple but yet oh so effective narrative
O Prazer da Virtude follows As Gaselas. Director, David Cardoso, plays the suave Romano. Romano isn’t your average club-hopping millionaire – he’s very hard seduce, or at least it seems that way. Llona (Matilde Mastrangi) is determined to make Romano want her. She can’t seem to handle Romano gratuitously soaping up his balls in the shower - but later finds out, that she may just have something in her arsenal to sway Romano’s affection. This story has an excellent surprise ending, that I’m not going to spoil.

Finally, O Gafanhoto, rolls almost into Twilight Zone territory; with our lead, Marcos (Arthur Roveder) going bananas, because his lovely blind girlfriend, Diana (Zelia Diniz) can see every movement he makes - in the numerous mirrors, through his reflection, that are situated all around the house. Like the previous two stories, the lead characters find themselves in the tub/shower making love. I had no idea Brazilians loved bathing so much…it’s a wonderful thing though, when Diniz’s curvaceous buttocks fills the frame.

There's only one extra feature on the disc, but its a very welcome one - it's an insert with many stills from the feature. Porno is presented in its original aspect ratio – full-frame 1.33:1. The DVD also features a brand new digital-transfer. Audio is Dolby 2.0 mono and in it’s native Portuguese. There are, thankfully, removable English subtitles for those not sharp on their Portuguese - like myself. The video and audio quality overall is good. There are some minor instances of wear on the film element, but for such a rarity, it's a nice little presentation.

If you haven't yet discovered the sensational soft-core "Pornochanchada" films, from Impulse Pictures - Porno is a perfect place to start. It's my personal favorite of the three recent releases (Chick's Ability and Violence and Flesh being the other two). The anthology format, makes these slices-of-sleaze go down perfectly - especially for Latin skin-flick connoisseurs.
