Movie Review: Halloween XXX (Smash Pictures, 2011)

Reviewed by: James DePaolo

Jim Powers is to porn what Alfred Hitchcock is to suspense. When you think of the porn industry, you see directors that are on the cutting edge of how to take their fan base into this fantasy land that we watch on screen our deepest fantasies and perverted thoughts are acted out for us. You had to know it was a matter of time that the porn parodies would start to target horror films. While back in the day, we had films like a porn version of Re-Animator and Exorcist, I always felt that those were so lame and just uninspired. Last year, Evil Head showed mainstream horror fans that they should be more open to porn, and a ton of mainstream sites (ours included) had that film in their top films of 2012.

Now, the mad genius behind The Babysitter series and countless other series jumps into a porn parody of Halloween. I think this film could also get non-porn fans to warm up to porn. Like all Jim Power films, I feel porn and the fantasy world he creates takes a back door to the comedy element. This film has an odd sense of humor that you just know the people behind the film are fans of this film and loving doing this parody. Sort of like the original film, Michael Myers kills his slutty older sister, and like the film 15 years later he escapes the hospital and comes home. Now, comes the twist, Laurie this time around is a schoolgirl that Michael seems to be lusting after.

Michael starts offing Laurie’s friends, most after having sex, which let’s be honest that is when most of us would probably love dying. I will be honest, this was more fun and a way better tribute than the shit Rob Zombie put out and got a billion dollar budget. I know people frown on porn, but I thought the film even if you took out that element was still such a demented fun time. Can anyone on this planet can match Jim Powers in terms of making porn so sleazy and cheesy but such a good fantasy ride? I mean you cannot go wrong when Annie meets Michael and he is this sheet figure and she goes to town on him.

The sex in this film is intense and really will get guys and gals excited, but the humor and fun to this film just creates such a balance that I feel still this is the future of the porn industry, just taking what Hollywood hits us with and put your own perverted slant on it. This film knows what it is, and that is a porn parody, and it does not try to be anything else. I mean when Dr. Loomis is hot on the chase for Michael, has to pull over and bang the nurse, how can you not laugh at this film and have fun. I am just shocked that Powers did not hire a small person like he did in the Babysitter series to play Tommy. That would have added to the camp value and feel of the film.

Some of the negative - with some of the sex scenes you can tell the sexual pleasure that the female was having sounded fake, and the mask that Michael wears in a few scenes is a little too silly. Other than that, I am a huge Jim Powers fan and feel he does no wrong, and this film is more proof. This was a fun time, even though it does have the negatives mentioned above. Jim Powers for President!
