Movie Review: Bloody Reunion (2007)

It seems whenever I have the need for a quality, original slasher fix, I find myself exploring the cinematic body-count efforts from other countries . A few years ago, I'm sure many of you folks remember a vicious slasher film from France called High Tension, from director Alexandra Aja. High Tension was a film so truly "old school"- with it's unapologetic carnage and stand-out gore FX from Gianetto Derossi, that it surprised people like a backwards kick to the package. Like France, another area of the world that's beginning to make it's mark in the slasher sub-genre, is Korea. Thanks to Korea I've been exposed to yet another non-American slasher entry that makes many recent slashers here in the states, look like a Goosebump's episode. I know what some of you are saying ,what about Hatchet? Hatchet is a lot of fun… but IT'S a comedy!! Dae-woong Lim's, Bloody Reunion is about as funny as a baby in a blender and seriously gives High Tension a run for its money for being the best '80s slasher not made in the '80s, or in America for that matter. Tartan Video's, Tartan Asia Extreme line have added yet another "extreme" title to their library in the form of Bloody Reunion.

Movie Review: H (2001)

by Hal Astell

Someone working on a rainy landfill site discovers a couple of corpses: a mother and new born baby. The mother apparently gave birth herself, cut the umbilical cord with her teeth and died of blood loss. Four days later, another corpse of a young mother is discovered on a bus, this time with the baby still holding onto life. There is a precedent for these murders, but the killer is in custody: a young man named Shin Hyun gave himself up ten months earlier after murdering six women, bringing the last with him in a bag as proof of his guilt. Is there a copycat or has Shin, who is on death row, hired a follower to continue his work and satisfy his particular urges by proxy?

The Movie Burrito: Volume 8 - Korean Cult Films, Wrasslin', a Tromatic classic and a Synapse sickie.

In this edition of Cinema Head Cheese’s Movie Burrito, we tackle a wide variety of cinematic gems (okay, maybe not all gems). Here’s a look at a couple releases from Tartan/Palisades, Troma Films, MVD Visual, Synapse Films and Cheezy Flicks.

First off, we have Cheezy Flick’s seven disc box-set of cult film trailers entitled Cheezy Trailer Extravaganza Box-Set. Each disc on this set contains various examples genre in short doses. Many of these trailers you may have already seen on other trailer compilations: Future World, The Giant Spider Invasion, Satan in High Heels, I Passed For White, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Day of The Animals, The Sinful Dwarf, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, The Green Slime and the gender-bending classic, Let Me Die a Woman.

The good thing about this set is the sheer amount of content ( over seven hours) but the bad.. as you may expect from viewing previous Cheezy Flicks compilations, is the poor quality. I found many of the older black and white films to look the best picture and sound wise. Some of the worst image wise were the 70s biker trailers. These are especially awful, sporting almost an orange picture throughout. We do also get several repeats; most noticeably The Abominable Dr. Phibes. It’s an amazing film, I understand that, and love Vincent Price..But three times?
