Movie Review: The Vixens of Kung-Fu / Oriental Blue (1975)

Since Vinegar Syndrome established themselves just a few months ago as one of the finer genre distributors around, they've bolstered their eclectic library with some double-feature discs that don’t make much of a dent in your pocketbook, while still delivering quality content. Their most recent release of Bob Milling’s The Vixens of Kung-Fu and Oriental Blue are no different. With the help of Golden Age and all-around stellar adult film distributor, Distripix (The Opening of Misty Beethoven, Naked Came a Stranger, Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle) Vinegar Syndrome puts forth one of their finer drive-in double features.

Both The Vixens of Kung-Fu and Oriental Blue have, as the title implies – an Asian theme. They even share many of the same actors -- Jamie Gillis, C.J Lang, Bobby Astyr and Peonies.  They are different stories completely. In The Vixens of Kung-Fu a young prostitute named Yan (Bree Anthony) is fleeing from a group of rednecks played by legends, Bobby Astyr and Jamie Gillis. She's unfortunately shot in the back by these rape-happy goons. Naturally, the boys have their way with her while she's still warm in a very sleazy foursome, which includes another actor jerking into some cloth vessel whilst Astyr and Gillis do what they do best.

Yan's later rescued by a sect of chanting, Kung-Fu practicing chicks who have the ability to blow smoke from their vaginas. No, I'm not making this up! The ladies train Yan to be a champ at fucking. In one of the more amazing scenes in the film Yan's skill becomes so sound that she busts a blood vessel in a fellow’s dick -- causing a gush a blood that reminded me a little bit of Jorg Buttgreit's Nekromantik. Yeck! As crazy as it is, I found the whole feature quite enjoyable.

Next up on the Milling double feature is Oriental Blue, starring Peonies Jung as the villainous Madame Blue. Madame Blue runs a popular prostitution ring with the help of a few associates (Bobby Astyr and Jamie Gillis) who go and recruit young nubile women who have enough talent to satisfy the clients.

Astyr steals the show in this one. I honestly can't think of an actor that is more fun to watch, as he's not only a solid actor, he has some great comedic skill. This is also next to Jamie Gillis - a man who was one of the finest actors ever in adult films. The sex scenes are solid. Jung isn't the most attractive woman by any means, but she really is a fine performer, showing plenty of energy.

There aren’t any extra features on the disc, but in all honesty both titles are good enough that you don’t need them. The transfers are both very good – Both showing off strong colors and very minimal ware on the element. The Vixens of Kung-Fu is the sharper of the two, but Oriental Blue isn’t too far behind.

I don’t know how often Vinegar Syndrome will be releasing these XXX double-bills, but do hope it continues with some regularity. Oriental Blue, for me is the stand-out of the two, although I can still see myself revisiting the oddball smut in The Vixens of Kung-Fu. Recommended.
