FanCam: The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special (2002)

The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special is lifted right from the one-shot comic of the same name. With a budget of around 3K, director Scott Lebrecht was the first to bring the Main Man to the big screen! The eight-minute short film was for Lebrecht's USC film school project and there is a LOT of love dumped into it. Love dumping like Santa in a North Pole prostitute. Yep, this one isn't for the kiddies. The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special is a favorite comic of mine and is one of the funny books largely responsible for what I do today. It is irreverent, violent and quite funny. And surprisingly, so is Lebrecht's short film!


The film itself is well done. It is a truncated version of the comic, skipping some story elements to get to the action. The film stars Andrew Byniarski (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Lobo. He is contracted by the Easter Bunny (Tom Gibis) to put a hit on Santa Claus (Michael V. Allen in his final film). Lobo, The Naughtiest of them All, is still cheesed about not getting a Christmas gift as a child and takes the contract. What ensues is a fun little gorefest that sees the criminal enterprise of Santa Claus take on the Main Man with Easter ready to win the spoils.

The costuming and lighting here is incredibly well done and it really is a faithful adaptation of Lobo, doing a much better job than that New 52 crap. It's also a heartwarming Christmas story!
