Movie Review: Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt (2011, Full Moon)

Directed by Charles Band

Starring Erica Rhodes, Olivia Alexander and Chelsea Edmundson

Back in 1999, Full Moon Entertainment and director David DeCoteau produced a strange little horror flick about an extra-dimensional entity that enters our world by infesting the eye of a voyeuristic scientist. Naturally the infested eye grows to enormous size, detaches itself from the body of its victim and goes on a rampage. The film was called The Killer Eye. Now the Eyeball's back in Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt.

Movie Review: Lust For Vengeance (2001)

Directed by Sean Weathers

Starring Jeff Roches, Carlito Rivera, Glenn Skeete and Michelle Soto

Reviewed By Kenny Barnwell

Plot~ Lust for Vengeance was inspired by the Italian thrillers of the 60's known as Giallo films, combining murder, soft-core porn and mystery along with trippy visual effects. As the legend goes, these movies inspired the first American slasher films of the 70's and according to director Sean Weathers this is the first and only Giallo movie ever made in the U.S. Weathers locked himself in a room for over a month watching over 100 Italian thrillers for the inspiration for this film.

Movie Review: Peeping Blog (2011)

I have to do this. I know, it's going to be tough, but I have to. I'm officially breaking up with Creep Creepersin movies. We had our fun. Well, we tried to have some fun. I really wanted to root for the guy after I saw He, but I just can't anymore. This will be my final Creep Creepersin review. It's time for me to leave this abusive relationship.

I've seen lazy filmmaking many times, but this is just awful. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING happened in this entire movie. Creep, please stop it. I don't need to watch you drive for twenty minutes. I don't need to watch you cook and eat a Hot Pocket. I don't need to listen to you breathing. You took what movies like Skew do so well and you crapped on it.

I didn't get a full movie, so it doesn't get a full review from me. I even refuse to post an Amazon link, if it even exists. I don't want to be responsible for the sale of even one of these DVDs.

Insidious (2011)

I heard a lot of oohing and aahing about Insidious when it came out. People said it was scary and creepy. I didn't hear much on the specifics of it, but the reactions I saw were enough to get me interested. When is showed up on Netflix streaming, I decided to take a look. I'm still not sure what all the hype was about.

The story follows a family as they move into a new house. One of the kids has an accident, and he ends up in a coma. The problem is that the coma has nothing to do with the fall, and doctors are baffled. As time goes by, the matriarch of the family starts to see things. Some of these things are quick and subtle, but they begin to build into full on spirits. It has a good build to it, but then it all goes to hell.

Movie Review: Our Idiot Brother (2011, Blu-ray)

I’ve grown to really like Paul Rudd. Throughout his career he’s been especially good in supporting roles in films like 40 Year-Old Virgin, Knocked-Up and Clueless.  Rudd’s resume shows numerous solid comedic performances where he’s played second fiddle or third wheel to Steve Carell, Seth Rogen and Will Ferrell. In last year’s awful Dinner for Schmucks, Rudd stars alongside Carell yet again playing the “straight guy” while Steve Carell brings out in his inner moron. Jesse Peretz’s Our Idiot Brother is Rudd’s most recent comedy vehicle, except this time around - he’s the “schmuck”.

The pre-credits sequence is horrifying and relentless. An upper middle-class Spanish man is seen with a bag over his head, his hands tied behind his back as he struggles for air. In one continuous take, he manages to get to his feet, and begins walking around what is presumed to be an outdoor rest area by the side of a highway. Breathing loudly, he manages to stumble to the road where he is narrowly missed by a speeding vehicle – and is then promptly struck down by another. Our hero's predicament (Fernando Cayo) only gets worse from there – in a sequence that has absolutely no bearing on the film that is about to follow!

Eats & Drinks Review: Mountain Dew Game Fuel: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

With the excitement over the newest Call of Duty release, one of the attached promotional items seems to have been swept under the rug. I'm not a big gamer, and the only live television I usually watch is football, so I also tend to miss out on commercials. I don't know if this was ever advertised, but I ran across two new Mountain Dew flavors created for MW3 fans. These aren't the first in the Game Fuel series. Mountain Dew created two flavors dedicated to World of Warcraft awhile back, and those were pretty good. With the addition of new flavors so frequently, it can be hard to keep track of the Mountain Dew line.

Movie Review: Full Moon's Grindhouse Collection - Dreamaniac, Mutant Hunt & Famous T&A

Full Moon Features are releasing several films from the old Wizard Video label onto the masses through their website at ten bucks a pop under the title Full Moon's Grindhouse Collection. Three of those releases I've gotten a chance to take a peek at - Dreamaniac, Famous T&A and Mutant Hunt.

One of those films is David DeCoteau's 1986 schlock-rich nugget Dreamaniac. DeCoteau has made a name for himself as being one of the more consistent B movie filmmakers to get behind a camera over the past 30 years. Most frequently he's been working with none other than Charles Band. I know what your thinking, "what's Clint Howard doing on the cover of this movie?". That isn't Clint folks, it's the knife-wielding psycho-bitch who slices and dices the majority of the cast. Not shockingly for a DeCoteau film, Dreamaniac opens with a dream sequence that comes complete with a fog machine, bright gels and some very gratuitous shots of shaved male buttocks. Ass is here in abundance, both clothed and unclothed are on display with lecherous close-ups.

Written and Directed by Mathew Reel

This is the story of Jessicka, (played by Elske McCain) a girl who suffers an excruciatingly abusive life at the hands of cousin's Brad (Jeff Sisson) and Marley (Trent Haaga). Jessicka is kept in a dog cage in the garage, treated just like any other dog owned by trailer trash along with the other family dog, but unlike the 4 legged one, Jessicka is used as a collared sex slave. She is taken out of her cage only when it's time to service her cousins or drugged up and whored out to groups of strangers. Good times indeed. At one point, Jessica is bitten by the other dog and, yes... you guessed it, catches rabies, escapes from her cage, somehow has the presence of mind to file her teeth down and then the vengeful fun begins.

Movie Review: Evil Bong 3: The Wrath of Bong (2011)

I haven't seen the first two Evil Bong movies, but I am a fan of silly slasher films. I like the crazy creatures, such as the GingerDead Man or the Leprechaun. I wasn't sure how a bong would kill people, but I thought I'd give it a try. It had a decent start that was somewhat similar to Stephen King's segment of Creepshow. It really turned into a whole lot of nothing with puppets. Eh, it could have been worse.

Movie Review: The Sweet Life (2011)

I'm not a huge fan of romantic comedies, and The Sweet Life promises to be the romantic comedy for people who hate them. I think that's because it will make you hate them even more. The problem I have with this being a romantic comedy is the comedy part. There was really nothing funny about this movie. I don't know if they thought that having Joan Jett in a small role would help, but it didn't. Even worse is her lackluster theme song.

Of all the many atrocities low budget cinema has thrust upon us thus far, the closest anyone has ever really got to Manos: The Hands of Fate is this one, whose title describes the film far better than its monster. Like Manos, this is mostly the product of one man who promptly left the movie business, though he had previously made Street-Fighter in 1959. The difference is that this time out there's a back story that's not just interesting, it's far more interesting than the actual movie itself. That one man is Arthur N White, a small scale conman from Connecticut who came up with a new name and a new gimmick every time the wind changed, making this film under two pseudonyms. As A J Nelson, he produced it, edited it and directed it. As Vic Savage, he played the lead role of Martin Gordon. His real role was as conman though, because the movie itself was the gimmick and during a break in filming he simply packed up and left town with the money.

Buy The Director's Cut on DVD

I love Aussie movies, probably because there's such an honesty to the actors and filmmakers that's hard to find anywhere else. There's plenty of that here, as an ensemble of characters are thrust together to make a movie. That isn't this movie, by the way, because this is a movie about a movie, which is being made by an arrogant director called Mike and a female producer called Bobby in the Australian outback. In what really boils down to being a slasher movie, this provides a much more interesting set of victims than your standard bunch of American teens at a holiday camp. There are a host of people involved, starting with Mike, who calls his movie 'an enigmatic mystery à la Picnic at Hanging Rock.' With guns. He decides he wants guns, even though his film is set in 1942, so you can imagine how on the ball he is. 'You're the cow and I'm the shepherd,' he tells an actress called Matilda during her audition, because he isn't too good at analogies.
