Movie Review: Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives

Wow. That's all I have. Wow. That was an... experience. Apparently, the heir apparent to John Waters' gilded, trashy throne is Israel Luna, the writer and director of Ticked Off Trannies with Knives. I'm a huge Waters fan, from Pink Flamingos to Pecker and beyond, and I haven't had this much fun with a faux seventies grindhouse rip since Black Dynamite. Luna gets it and, more importantly, those crazy trannies get it, too!

I'm never really sure in most cases when a filmmaker is truly channeling the seventies exploitation flick or some kind of production mishap caused the 'style' change, but Trannies delivers. It is apparent, right from the start, that we are in an exploitation revenge fantasy complete with sexy babes (relatively speaking), dastardly villains and excessive violence (complete with missing reels and grainy film, of course). Breaking Glass Pictures is releasing Ticked Off Trannies with Knives on DVD November 9th, and I can't wait for the rest of the world to experience this. The filmmakers have attempted to create a new genre... transploitation (not mine, I stole that from somewhere).

Like most exploitation revenge films, Trannies is pretty low on plot but more than makes up for it in style. In a nutshell, tranny Bubbles (Krystal Sommer, a real life girl) was drugged and raped by a guy named Boner (Larry Zembrod just oozing redneck menace). The rapist, displeased to find a hot girl with big hooters sporting a twig and berries goes on a rampage with his friends to punish Bubbles for the deception. Bubbles survives, but two of her tranny friends do not (the hilarious Jenna Sky and Erica Andrews). This sets Bubbles and her remaining tranny friends Pinky La'Trimm (Kelexis Davenport) and Rachel Slurr (William Belli) on a path of kung-fu vengeance straight out of Foxy Brown.

The performances, especially considering the budget, are top notch but a special nod must go to William Belli. In a film filled with witty one liners, his delivery as Rachel Slurr was beyond reproach unintentionally, I assume, upstaging his fellow cast members.

Please note that Ticked Off Trannies with Knives will not be for all tastes. You've got to trend a little to the strange side to get it and then enjoy it, and an appreciation of 1970s grindhouse fare ('unique' lighting, skipping frames, etc.) is a requirement. Oh, and any homophobes should avoid this. In fact, if you are scared of our gay brothers and sisters, do us all a favor and close your garage with the car running. Preferably before you breed.

  1. "Krystal Sommer, a real life girl" - What does this mean? This could be taken a few different ways.

  2. Love the ending in this. Great film!
