Movie Review: 2 Girls 1 Cup (2007)

As you probably already know, I like porn. Backroom Casting Couch is one of my favourite online series of videos, and I love them because the fantasy is great and the performers are usually gorgeous. But this is an example of ‘regular’ porn that ‘regular’ Joes tend to watch. But, people with fetishes have their own porn too.

Something like a decade ago, I came across a Max Hardcore video or two. I don’t remember which ones, but it doesn’t really matter as they all are very similar, as is often the case with gonzo porn. I watched attractive girls doing filthy things with this dirty old man; and vomit was involved. That’s the kind of fetishist porn I was talking about above. Such is the case of the title that I am about to review here.

Max Hardcore may be American, and he even did time in jail, but this kind of porn is more often booming in countries such as Brazil. And 2 Girls 1 Cup was made in Brazil by Marco Fiorito who specializes in porn involving piss, scat, and vomit. But what is it about this video in particular that made it the most famous disgusting piece of viral madness ever unleashed on the internet? First let’s talk a little bit about what’s on screen...

An opening credits sequence involving z-grade animation is introducing us to the title’s female leads: Karla who is blonde and chubby, and Latifa who is brunette and skinny. The only sexy thing about this pair is Latifa’s tattoos, and even those, not very much so. Said performers enter a kitchen and they start kissing passionately. And they lick each other’s pussies and assholes. They actually seem to be into each other.

Anyway, the girls got hungry (Hungry Bitches is the original title), and when Karla finds the refrigerator to be empty, Latifa gets an idea. Karla is holding a cup, in which Latifa takes a shit. She then urinates on her big turd. How’s that for topping? They lick the shit like it is some kind of chocolate ice-cream, and then they eat it like it is food, and then they vomit it in each other’s mouths. They play with their food, and they swallow shit. And this goes on and on for a while. Until, on the 23^rd minute mark, shit stains appear on the camera lens and the editor is using the first dissolve; which is the sole cut of the picture. The whole thing is just two one-shots, but more on that later.

Latifa paints Karla’s ass with shit and then licks it. She vomits on dat ass and licks the puke too. Finally Karla takes a crap too, this time in a bowl, and after the girls smell it (they seem to love the aroma), they eat it, and vomit it into each other’s mouths. And this goes on and on for a little while. Latifa puts shit in Karla’s ass, using her tongue and fingers. And for the finale, the girls take shit and puke from the floor, put it in the bowl, and eat it passionately. And then Salò (1975) fans think they’ve seen something extraordinary...

So, like I said above, this whole video consists of two one-shots. This alone is an achievement in itself. Those two long one-shots seem choreographed (although I’m sure they weren’t too much), and that alone makes this look more like a piece of provocative performance art instead of low budget porn. I can’t believe I’m writing this about a video about shit eating, but the shots are not static, which is something not many mention in their reviews. The camera operator seems to know both porn angles and cinema.

The actresses (yes, I said it, actresses), have a little bit of dialogue, but it is in Portuguese, and I watched the video sans subtitles, so I don’t know what they were talking about, but I’m sure it wasn’t philosophy. Some of the moans seemed to be overdubbed, but now that I think of it, did anyone really bothered to do ‘sound design’ for this?

When I decided to watch this, I thought, okay, 60 minutes of vomit swallowing won’t be too difficult to get through. But I was wrong. There is only so much shit (literally) you can watch being eaten. And the problem is that there are some things you cannot un-see. The mind doesn’t work like a computer, and there’s no ‘undo’ button for brains, so I don’t know when I will be able to forget all this dirt, if ever.

The video became the most famous scat flick in history of porn because someone uploaded a one-minute trailer in websites he shouldn’t, and people who never watched such gonzo atrocities before freaked out and consequently made it viral. Then many people filmed their reactions watching this video, which became an online trend. I’m not into watching videos of people watching a trailer for a scat porn video so I missed all the fun back in 2007 when the craze took place.
