Movie Review: The Life and Death of a Porno Gang (Blu-ray)

The sub-genre of “snuff films” in movies have been explored and even exhausted in many ways by filmmakers since Paul Schrader’s fantastic Hardcore. In 1997, there was even a book on the existence of snuff with Yaron Svoray’s book God’s of Death. It  took on this subject with compelling but seemingly fictional stories from the author who claimed to see a person killed on camera upon a visit to an Eastern bloc country.

A Serbian Film has gotten a ton of attention over the past three years as it not only explores the “snuff film” but takes the sub-genre to some sickening points.  Another film taking on the subject matter from director Mladen Djordjevic called The Life and Death of the Porno Gang recently came out of Yugoslavia. Synapse Films has been no stranger to tackling more obscure international fare which they often do a great job at. If you’ve only seen the movie at a film festival you’ll be happy to know that The Life and Death of the Porno Gang has made its U.S debut on Blu-ray and DVD.  Could it actually be better than A Serbian Film?

Cinema Head Cheese: The Podcast! #42 - Milos and Martin

Jeff and Kevin head straight into chaos this week after Kevin finally watched A Serbian Film. His reaction to it is surprising as he explains that the movie really isn't about shock value.

Jeff gives his take on Human Centipede 2. He delves into the lead character and how obsession can lead into a nice little pit of crazy.

The Blue Cheese segment this week takes Jeff into Sex Mad Family, while Kevin looks back to his youth with the documentary about Showbiz Pizza's Rock-afire Explosion. They dive back into Big Money Rustlas after Jeff couldn't make it halfway through.

Movie Review: A Serbian Film (2010, Blu-ray)

Srdjan Spasojevic's controversial  thriller A Serbian Film ( Srpski Film ) has gotten an incredible amount of attention over the past year and a half for being one of the most shocking films ever produced, as it's been banned and even bounced from film festivals. I tend to agree with that because for me it's up there with films like Men Behind the Sun, Salo, Happiness, Cannibal Holocaust for the fact that the filmmakers really don't give a fuck what the audience think when it comes to abhorrent content displayed on the screen. Invincible Pictures and MVD Entertainment have given America their first taste at an official release of this bleak, slice of Serbian apple pie.
