PLANO, TEXAS. (January 19, 2017) – One of the world’s most popular franchises in the history of horror, the Phantasm film series has terrified fans for generations. Well Go USA Entertainment answers the prayers of those fans with the highly anticipated release of THE PHANTASM COLLECTION, a six-disc Blu-ray™ box set debuting on March 28.  The collection features all five frightening films in the series – PHANTASM: REMASTERED (1979), PHANTASM II (1988), PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD (1994), PHANTASM IV: OBLIVION (1998) and the most recent installment PHANTASM: RAVAGER (2016). In all five films in Don Coscarelli’s iconic series, Mike (Michael Baldwin) faces off against a mysterious grave robber known only as the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) and his lethal arsenal of terrible weapons.

The sixth disc of THE PHANTASM COLLECTION features vintage special features, including “Phantasmagoria” a documentary containing new and archival interviews with cast and crew.  In addition, an announcement on new, never-before-seen bonus materials will be coming soon.

TV on DVD Review: The Great American Dream Machine

The Great American Dream Machine more than likely inspired Saturday Night Live and maybe the direction National Lampoon and films like The Groove Tube went into. This show created by PBS’s own Alvin H. Perlmutter what a very thought provoking and at times funny variety show that only lasted from 1971 to 1972. Who would have guessed at one time PBS was so daring to air a show like this. This show seems to remind me of The Daily Show, it has a humor to it but it also has such an odd way of getting its point across. The show has an earnest feel but yet at times seems to struggle with fully getting its point exactly out there without some comical moment that feels thrown in. There are no 2 episodes that are like each other. This show has such an unpredictability that you are not even sure what they are going to throw at you.

The show is very uneven and at times come across as a cluster, but the fascination really provides the base that people could be invested in what is happening. This show does a great service at showing us how this country was at the time, where we meet people like an Evil Knievel or a Mel Torme. This film is also a mixture that works to an extent of music, personal opinion pieces, performance art and short films.

Blu-ray Review: Hellraiser Series: Miramax Multi-Feature (2011)

This Blu-ray release contains the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth film in the Hellraiser series. Why they left out the seventh movie and added the eighth is really beyond me but thats what they did.

Now in all honesty, any hard-core Hellraiser fan will tell you, these films are the straight-to-dvd bastard children of a once mighty horror franchise, (yes, Bloodline did get a theatrical release but it was quite evident by this time that the series had pretty much hit rock-bottom). I really think including Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth instead of the eighth film would have made this something that might get fans excited, but thats just me and my wishful thinking. Now lets take a quick look at each...

Movie Review: Ray Harryhausen Box Set (2005)

Before the advent of computers and CGI, movie makers used a variety of approaches to achieve animated special effects. One approach was stop-motion animation, a time consuming process where miniature models were filmed a single frame at a time with slight movements to the models in between the frame shots. It was pioneered by a man named Willis O'Brien and first used in the films The Lost World (1925) and the classic King Kong (1933).

And the rest, as they say, is history. His list of credits include some of the most beloved sci-fi and fantasy films of all time, including Mighty Joe Young (1949), The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Mysterious Island (1961), Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977), and the original Clash of the Titans (1981).
