Movie Review: Sex Hunter 1980 (1980, Nikkatsu/Impulse/Synapse)

...really gotta hand it to the folks over at the Nikkatsu Film Corporation, during their successful reign of what they have coined 'Roman Porno' (...that's 'romantic pornography'...though, this viewer originally assumed that the 'roman' moniker, referred to a flavor of Roman eroticism, which actually might be understandable, to some, in such an assumption). Most of their productions (...at least, the one's which this viewer has thus far partaken of) have allowed viewers to engage a rather compelling storyline, amidst the graphic sexcapades, which these films are normally known for. And these storylines are, for the most part, interesting enough to captivate and draw the unwary viewer in...until such point that the often graphic & fetish-flavored eroticism kicks in, and hits the viewer with a shock to the system, not unlike that of an ounce of everclear, instantly hitting the brain. And such is the case, once again, with a recently released episode from 1980, called "Sex Hunter"...a torrid tale, made exponentially all the more reflective of the imitable Nikkatsu storytelling style, in that the main character, herself, embraces a subtle innocence...a vulnerable and naive innocence, which is abruptly and shockingly made corrupt, through a trial of eroticism, most outrageous and forbidden...

Movie Review: Score (1973, Blu-ray)

“Score” is a grade A Radley Metzger film and one of my favorite films of his. Metzger made a name for himself with erotic flicks such as The Lickerish Quartet, Camille 2000 and his masterpiece “The Opening of Misty Beethoven” to just name a few.

The films based off an off-Broadway play by Jerry Douglas. The film take place in the fictional city of Leisure. We start with a couple of swingers, Elvira (Claire Wilbur) & Jack (Gerald Grant). They setup a little game of seduction, mainly taking bets on how many people can you screw? They eventually meet up with a young newly wedded couple Betsy (cult icon Lynn Lowry) & Eddie (Gay porn star Casey Donovan). Soon the innocent couple of Betsy are invited over to dinner and the booze starts flowing, joints are lit up and relationships are tested. This all ends with the couple taking off their clothing and going at it.

Whimsy in the Boudoir: Radley Metzger's THE PRIVATE AFTERNOONS OF PAMELA MANN

Humans. We are curious creatures by nature. For example, when you walk by an open window, what is your first instinct? To look. Not always to intentionally be nosy, but just by sheer, curious instinct. What about that guy? Is he a boxers or briefs man? What about that girl? Is she happy with her life? Now take that and imagine if you got to be a private detective and follow around a beautiful, leggy blonde by the name of Pamela Mann. That's exactly the situation that grabs ahold of Eric Edwards in Radley Metzger's THE PRIVATE AFTERNOONS OF PAMELA MANN.

Frank (Eric Edwards) is the type of detective whose personal interest in voyeurism, one that dates back through several generations (!), has transformed from a lurid hobby into gainful employment. (Talk about living the dream!) His bread and butter, naturally, are jealous lovers who often suspect their partners of infidelity. After having to break the bad news to one perturbed, awesomely fey man (Kevin Andre), he soon gets another case. The client in question? Mr. Mann (Alan Marlowe), a mens magazine publisher who is suspicious that his wife, Pamela (the flaxen haired Barbara Bourbon), is “doing things I wouldn't like.” Sounds kind of broad but between Frank's profession and the fact that this is erotica, you can guess what some of those things are. (Undoubtedly something wonderful, lovely and saucy.)

We have Happy Chicken Studio to thank for bringing all of us here in The West this little slice of Asian comfort food known as the “Pink Film.” And what is a Pink Film, you might ask.....well a Pink Film is basically PG-Rated porn with no nudity. It's based on the premise that there is nothing hotter then watching an 18 year old girl in panties and a tank top cavort around the house fondling kitchen appliances and various other housewares. (Personally, I really can't argue with the logic behind this.)
