 Los Angeles, CA (September 2014.) The controversial horror film that shocked the world in 1987, when it was banned in Germany, censored in Japan and simultaneously became a huge underground hit in the US (now long out of print.) Nekromantik tells the story of Rob (Daktari Lorenz) who works at a street-cleaning Agency, and visits roadside accidents to clean up the scene. Incidentally Rob collects the body parts and shares them with his girlfriend Betty (Beatrice M.) When Rob presents a complete corpse taken out of a swamp, their undying love reaches its peak, but soon after Betty gets a more liking towards the corpse and leaves Rob, which takes him to the sick end of his destruction. Cult Epics is proud to release Jorg Buttgereit’s horror classic in High Definition and with 4 hours of extras, including Jorg’s debut short film Hot Love. Cult Epics celebrates a special October 24th 35mm print screening of Jörg Buttgereit's classic NEKROMANTIK at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles in anticipation of their new transfer of NEKROMANTIKin a Special Edition feature his first short film HOT LOVE, The Making of NEKROMANTIK, Jörg Buttgereit film trailers, featurette, and the isolated soundtrack from the film.

Jörg Buttgereit will appear at the Oct. 24th screening of NEKROMANTIK, bringing other short films along with him, during BeyondFest at the Egyptian Theatre, and also appear Saturday, October 26th at the Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, TX, in conjunction with the fundraising for GERMAN ANGST, an extreme horror film collaboration of Jörg Buttgereit (Nekromantik, Der Todesking) with Andreas Marschall (Tears of Kali, Masks), and Michael Kosakowski (Zero Killed). A long, hard walk down the dark alleyways of contemporary Berlin in stories of love, sex, and death, beginning production in January 2014.

Movie Review: Street Trash (Blu-ray, 1987)

Some of the finest films I've ever had the pleasure of seeing have used New York based locales and are also created by New York filmmakers. Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen come to mind as being two of the more prolific and well... of course there is Spike Lee, but we won't go there. I love the little guys though, and I enjoy horror the most so that leads me to what I think is one of the greatest cult movies of all time, Jim Muro and Roy Frumkes' Street Trash. After receiving a fantastic DVD release that took years to complete Synapse Films have taken it to the next level - and then some - with their Special Meltdown Edition on glorious Blu-ray.

Few movies have portrayed the homeless in such a light as Street Trash has. When a liquor store owner discovers a wooden box full of mysterious hooch called Tenafly Viper in his basement he jumps at the chance of selling the swill to bums for a cheap price. This stuff is brutal though, as bad as Black Velvet Canadian Whiskey is, Tenafly Viper is worse - it doesn't just make you sick, it melts you into colorful puddles of goo. The booze is just part of the story as we do have a couple protagonists in a few homeless brothers who are battling day-to-day by living their life in the junkyard while a menacing, beast named, Bronson (Vic Noto) wreaks havoc on the bums and citizens.
