Movie Review: Thankskilling (2009)

Back in the early 1600s the native Indians placed a curse on the white devil honkies via an evil foul mouthed Turkey so foul mouth you’re going to want to slap him in the pecker er beak aptly named Turkie. Fast forward several centuries a dog awakens the beast by pissing on the turkey’s grave. I tell you peeing on graves is never a good idea in horror movies and just plain rude folks. Unfortunately, for a group of college kids they stumble upon Turkie’s murderous path.…….

Super silly fun little cheapy film and very TROMAish if you will. If the notion of a rubber homicidal turkey with a bad case of tourettes, running around killing people and cracking jokes interests you, chances are you’re really going to revel in this film. If not you’re really not going to like it at all..

For those who don’t have to take their horror movies so seriously, who are able to sit back, relax have fun and don’t mind some silliness in their horror, you are going to have fun with this film.
While this film is a tad short (running just past the one hour mark).it does work in the films favor enabling it not to overstay it’s welcome .

Wow, when I saw this DVD cover I was like "Hot Damn". ONE 7 Movies a new DVD company which is always a good thing especially these days. And even more so when they are releasing some fun and different titles.  It has a nice bold cover  (Censored though but I guess it’s easier to get it in stores and such) then on the back of the DVD cover it reads..“Erotic Escape is a long lost guilty pleasure available for the first time in DVD. Directed by Nello Rossati of the Sensuous Nurse fame, the film features lots of nudity and over the top violence. Drenched with in mud with nothing to cover her breathtaking body, Eleonora Vallone runs for her life and gets laid to to kill!” HOT DAMN!!! I’m ready to get my perv on….

A geneticist working on highly top secret project for the government making super cross breed reptiles is having a little trouble in the bedroom. While he may be a genetic genius in the lab hes a dud in the bedroom. So much so that his fiancé dumps him. So instead of creating a hot new love slave he decides to use reptile DNA to make a kid. As kids are always nothing but trouble instead of dealing with a scratched fender, Mr Henderson’s broken window or a missing beer from the fridge he is now dealing with an MMA loving reptilian offspring that has a bad habit of leaving dead bodies around. If that weren’t enough he now has the government after him realizing that he has been up to more than downloading questionable porn while he is suppose to be working.

After an accident the dreaded VC442B virus has infected the facilities and the entire building is set to lock-down mode leaving the staff not only realizing they have to work late but now have to deal with the zombies er neo-zombies are rampant in the laboratory.

Movie Review: Ding Dong Dead (2009)

Doug, the odd neighbour you don’t want. Not the guy who you would call the police on if he ever showed up on your front door but the one you just don’t want to talk to at all. Conversing with him in any way just makes you uncomfortable. One night while out on a Slurpee run Doug comes across a group of women called the Ding Dong Ditchers. I’m not sure how old they’re suppose to be as one minute they’re out causing trouble at all hours of the night and then the next minute they’re meeting in a dollhouse filled HQ. With Doug lacking social skills, his first encounter with members of the gang naturally don’t go well. Taking offense to his less than charming ways the girls decide to screw with him. From there trouble starts to escalate for him but things go to hell for all when one of the members of the Ding Dong Ditchers goes missing and the rest of the gang decide to go after Doug.

A very decent entry in the indy horror genre. Somewhat cliched but apparently based on actual events. Unfairly tends to get mixed into the “torture porn” category. And passed over by the less informed.Right from the start the film while setting you up of things to come it does grab your attention and at no point does it fail in keeping it nor does it become a task to watch to watch and for an Indy film that’s a big accomplishment.

So I thought why not bust out the Cheese doodles because tonight’s movie theme is Rape Revenge !I wonder if my mailman knows how much of a filth distributer he is, ha!

Movie Review: Opstandelsen (2009, AWE)

A group of relatives who are already not too keen on attending a funeral have to deal with something more evil than the vultures who run the churches that prey on the sick, old and the weak. The funeral is interrupted by a zombie outbreak of mass proportions. They soon realize that they have to put their differences aside if they want to live another day and not become zombie poop (Do zombies even poop?)

Going by what I have learned by watching films; Vampires can’t enter a church or holy ground but apparently it’s a completely different thing for zombies.



Normally when you go into reviewing independent films you really have to relax and be a little more open minded. Retract the claws ,dull the tongue and remember when your mother said "if you can’t say anything nice don't say anything at all. But, then again I don’t think my mom reviews movies. With OPSTANDELSEN there are few faults with the film. In fact, technically this film is quite sound. It's very atmospheric and moody and very visually appealing. The cinematography is really good and helps set the film up. Changing up the editing in different parts in the film suiting the situation plot wise was a strong point.



The film uses “fast” zombies which I normally don’t care for but that’s a matter of taste. They however made the film without any CGI and I give them BIG props for that. A nice amount of blood/gore that would appeal to the gorehounds out there. A lot of movie references in this film that most zombie/horror fans will notice should appreciate.

One of the most noteworthy things about this film is not only were they able to use a church for filming but this was without the church knowing about it. They also got the actual church’s Vicar to play himself in the film. Just shows that how well money talks, but does make me wonder how many bottles of ceremonial wine were opened during and after production of this film.



My one and only complaint with this film is the film’s ending. Even with the film just creeping past the 50 minute mark , the ending comes to early. Then when it does end it comes off as rushed. In the beginning of the film they have a nice set up and some decent character development (especially for such a short film ) but then the ending hits and its all over way to quick and the films big ending is anything but.

Movie Review: The Anniversary At Shallow Creek (2011)

First off what a terrible name for a horror movie. THE ANNIVERSARY AT SHALLOW CREEK does not make me think of fear or death. In fact it sounds like something my Grandma would watch while drinking Tea and eating cookies along with the film A ROOM WITH A VIEW. This independent horror film was apparently based on true events.

A man hoping to get away to his uncle’s place out in the mountainside for a romantic getaway decides to invite a few friends and turn it into a weekend of partying instead. However unknown to him is that the house previously was the scene of a double homicide. The next thing the party goers realize theirs a party pooper at the party the shape of a sniper wielding maniac who is intent on ventilating the guests heads.

The self proclaimed “slick homage to horror classics and a clever update of the genre that never leads exactly where the audience suspects” is actually quite the opposite as not only does this film not bring anything new to this genre but it’s annoyingly predictable. It’s not quite as simple as a Scooby Doo mystery but the majority of the time even the most casual viewer is knowing where every plot is heading. "Shadow" is not necessarily a boring film it just doesn’t offer anything new or interesting. I did like the killer sniper idea though. Some light gore, nothing special, a mild body count and some nice looking girls running around in their underwear caught my eye but nothing remotely close to satisfying my inner sleazehound.

I don’t hate this film as much as other people do but the thing is with there being already so many great horror films and homages out there it's possible shortly after the release of this film it may sink into cinematic obscurity where no one involved is going to remember or even care to remember.

Movie Review: Dawning (2009)

Director Gregg Holtgrewe manages to scrape up some more funds to remake one of his previous films in Breaking Glass Pictures' release of Dawning. Two siblings head out to the woods in Minnesota to visit their dad and their step mom. Right from the beginning the films sets ups that that not everything is rosey and chipper with this family. It doesn’t take long for family tensions mount. If that wasn’t bad enough they realize something more sinister is at work outside the house that makes the families personal demons look like poofy poodles.
