Cinema Head Cheese: The Podcast! #147 - Cinephiles

Kevin, Jeff, and Dalyn discuss the horrible stories of abuse coming out of Hollywood, stand-up comedy, and the adult film industry. They also discuss Tucson Comic-Con, a podcast mini-series from Jon Ronson, and a "comedian" that stops in for a thankfully short visit.

Movie Review: Blue Ice (1985)

Directed by Philip Marshak

Movie Review by Greg Goodsell

Since we’ve e been promised by a certain individual that America will be great again, this little porno chestnut unearthed by the fine folks at Vinegar Syndrome reminds us once again what makes America great: Third-rate Humphrey Bogart world-weary detectives and their ponderous narration … reliable Nazi villains who can't seem to keep their swastika armbands on straight … purty girls that upon analysis aren't all that purty … sex scenes involving lots of shouting and yelling … dramatic scenes involving lots of shouting and yelling … beautiful locations of San Francisco rendered with ragged camera swish pans. Yes! We're in the kooky alternative universe that is Blue Ice, as helmed by the notorious director Philip Marshak (The Nightmare Never Ends, aka Cataclysm and Dracula Sucks!).

The story? You got us there, pal! Famed skin flick hunk and lunk Herschel Savage stars as the aforementioned gumshoe contracted by said Nazis to find a rare book of ultimate power. Savage wanders in and out fleshy situations that don't forward the plot. His hooker roommate services “Hedgehog” himself Ron Jeremy, there's lots of screaming and yelling, while reliable schlong Paul Thomas stumbles about in an alcoholic haze, winding up trussed up and tortured by said Nazis. The least eagle-eyed viewer will note that Thomas, kept bound in bed rests his arms in two hooks without any restraint whatsoever keeping them there! You suppose the doofus secretly likes it? Exotic “Helga Sven,” a Germanic platinum blonde by way of Tulsa, Oklahoma sings a passable version of “Deutschland Uber Alles,” and the sought-after book, an ungainly prop full of Bedazzler beads is opened, referencing 1955's Kiss Me Deadly long before Quentin Tarrantino did so in Pulp Fiction (1996). We haven't even mentioned the plain-Jane 300-year-old witch who concludes the film with a painfully dated laser light show. Longtime skull-faced screen villain Reggie Nalder (Salem’s Lot) appears as a guest Nazi poobah, and thankfully remains fully clothed ….

Movie Review: Werewolves in Heat (2015)

Okay. I promised David Hayes that I would be brutally honest in my review of this movie and I intend to keep it. (please don’t be mad please don’t be mad please don’t be mad)

Werewolves in Heat is about three young men about town looking to party and get laid. Renting a house out in the desert they plan a big shin dig but if they don't want it to end up a sausage fest, they need to find some ladies. ASAP. They journey to a local bar where they hire some hookers for the evening. How convenient…except, unbeknownst to our gentlemen callers, these ladies are also werewolves and our intrepid heroes are on their dinner menu.

That's really all you need to know about the film. There is nothing deep, or even all that interesting, about the story. The characters are tissue paper, the acting is terrible, and the whole thing felt like a group of people made a movie just because they could. Basically the entire film is jerk-off fodder for 13 year old boys - which is maybe why I didn't like it.

There were just a couple of bits that made the 70 minute watch time worth it. The man-servant that comes with the rental house, Captain Bill, was amusing. He had little zingers here and there, he kept himself in the front closet until needed, and he wore a captain's hat the whole time. He made me laugh once or twice.

Movie Review: Same Time Every Year (1981, DVD)

Review By: Rob Sibley

How about that, when I finished watching this 80's porn flick I was surprised to find out that Fred J. Lincoln was the director. If the name sounds a bit familiar it's because the man played "Weasel" in Wes Craven's (Classic?) Last House on the left. Sadly Fred passed away earlier this year (R.I.P. bro). But looking further into Lincolns resume this flick wasn't a one off. He actually made quite the career directing adult features. He's actually made over 300 of them, that has to be some kind of record right?  Also a quick note, I think that gal on the cover of the DVD...she's not in the film, she's actually modern day porn actress (retired? Come on they never stay retired... just sayin') Temptress.

You gotta admit a fan or not, vintage porn is pretty damn charming. Could be the nostalgia factor, the copious amounts of bush, bad acting, worse music and story lines that were more likely then not written on a cocktail napkin. Some retro flicks of this ilk shot their wad a bit further with intentions of artistic grandeur.  Radley Metzger was one of those filmmakers who'd actually deliver a solid film even if you removed the sex. This film though? Nah, it's not art house in the least. But so-what? Most people don't pop on retro-erotica for the thrilling story-lines.

Movie Review: Heaven's Touch (1983)

It seems lately here at the Blue Cheese we've covered numerous titles directed by smut pioneer, Shaun Costello. Just from watching movies like Forced Entry, More Than Sisters and The Passions Of Carol, I've seen an attention to narrative that I’m not quite use to when viewing older fuck films. The hardcore sex is a given, but that’s not really what makes a these films in particular unique. With today’s review,Costello puts forth some divine intervention with the comedy, Heavens Touch. It’s essentially a goofy light-hearted comedy that borrows much from Hollywood film Heaven’s Gate. And get this, Heaven's Touch is actually much more entertaining than Heaven’s Gate.

Interview: Porn Legend Tom Byron

Cinema Head Cheese's intrepid reporter, James DePaolo, crosses swords...err we mean sword, to swiss army knife, with one of the kings of porno and his idol, Tom Byron! This one get's a little filthy, so enjoy you dirty birds!!

1. My god, Tom Byron, fuck I am truly not worthy of this honor. Thanks for taking the time. I have to ask a guy in porn,( esp. one that has over 30 years of films) have you ever went down on a chick, and she smelt so rank..if so what do you do..do you tell her?

TB: Thankfully, that's usually not a problem. When it is, I handle it discreetly. Not everyone does, though

2. How can dating a regular chick do anything for you, when you sleep with hot girls all day in movies?

TB: I really don't date regular girls. Everyone I come in contact with it seems has some connection to the biz... I'll tell you one thing. My schedule lately doesn't seem to allow much time for socializing in general.

It’s that time of year again! Michael and a group of his male friends head off to a lawyer convention, leaving their wives home alone. Of course, these ladies aren’t stupid and they know their men are just out having a “good time” without them getting in the way. Picked up by a chauffeur (played by a younger, slimmer Ron Jeremy), the boys head out to a sex resort for the weekend. The wives, on the other hand, have some sin-sational plans of their own...

Low on plot and high on non-stop sex, SAME TIME EVERY YEAR stars many high-profile adult stars like Ron Jeremy, Loni Sanders, Paul Thomas, Tiffany Clark and Herschel Savage. Fred J. Lincoln (the psychotic ‘Weasel’ from Wes Craven’s classic, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT) directs this 1981 classic adult feature.

Movie Review: Bloody Bloody Bible Camp (2012)

I said it back when I reviewed The Frankenstein Syndrome, and I'll say it again. I don't pander. If a friend makes a movie that I don't like, I won't review it. I'd rather say nothing than lie. That being said, I was very excited to see our own David Hayes in Bloody Bloody Bible Camp. The cast includes Reggie Bannister, Ron Jeremy and Tim Sullivan, and that, plus the crazy title are all a horror fan really needs to get into a movie like this. As proud of this as Dave and director Vito Trabucco are, I knew it had to be good. Not only was it funny and ridiculously gory, it was a perfect love letter to classic slasher flicks.

Movie Review: Girls Gone Dead (2012)

Directed by Michael Hoffman Jr. and Aaron T. Wells

Starring Jerry Lawler, Beetlejuice and Ron Jeremy

Rebecca is set to spend her first Spring Break home from college with her old high school cheer-leading friends, much to the chagrin of her Bible-thumping mother. The girls have been granted the usage of a rental property in the Florida coastal town of Manatee Creek, courtesy of the stripper-loving father of one of the girls. However, they are soon to find that their vacation is about to turn into their worst nightmare. Just down the road in Daytona Beach, "Crazy Girls Unlimited" - a company famous for it's drunken topless DVD releases - had been throwing an event for their latest video series. However, the shoot ends early when a killer, complete with medieval weaponry, shows up to add his own brand of craziness to the festivities. Unaware of what has transpired at the "Crazy Girls" party, Rebecca and her friends decide to throw a Spring Break shindig of their own. But the girls get more than they bargained for when the hooded, monk-masked killer crashes the party, quickly littering the place with gutted-out co-eds.

Movie Review: Big Money Rustlas (2010)

Many people like to discount the Insane Clown Posse as a pair of talentless idiots whose followers represent the dumbest dregs of American society. I was one of those people. After watching Big Money Rustlas, I would like to be counted as two of those people. Assuming that most ICP fans probably can't count, I don't think that will be a problem. Look, I'm not trying to be one of the "haters." I'm just being honest. These guys aren't good at anything. They aren't good rappers. They are terrible actors. They can't even manage to do a halfway decent job putting on clown makeup. If you think I'm just crapping on this movie because I hate ICP, you're wrong. I really don't care about them one way or another. They seem like nice guys, to be honest. In fact, when I was scanning Netflix for something to watch, I got excited when I saw this title, and I immediately hit play. I pretty well got what I expected.

Movie Review: Adventures in Pornoland (2008)

Directed by Brad Brough and Greg Salman

Starring Brad Brough. Greg Salman and Taryn O'Neil

Ethan (Brad Brough) is a Canadian television director who has come to Hollywood to fulfill his dream of making it big. With his fiance (Taryn O'Neil) at his side, they both soon discover that making it big isn't as easy as it sounds. They then realize that they will both have to make concessions if they want to survive. Desperate for work, Ethan hooks up with an old friend (Greg Salman) who happens to be in the porn business and against his apparent prudish morals decides to give it a try. And since he has always found porn to be dirty and taboo he decides he is going to try and make a different style of porn, porn “with a heart” so to speak. Where the actors and actresses can actually convey emotion and tell a “real” story that transcends the sexual act. He soon discovers though, that this is quite impossible.
